Buena Vista, Colorado
June 19-22, 2008
CROSSHAIRS for CHRIST invites you to join the friends and family of C4C as we camp, fish, hike and raft the might Arkansas River for 3 straight days. We will be camping at Chalk Creek Campground & RV Park just south of Buena Vista. Camping fees average $23-$39 per night. There is no C4C group fee to attend this trip. Participants are responsible for their own meals, camping fees, license fees and rafting fees (if you choose to raft). Bring your favorite Copper John. C4C’s official fly always works on this river.

TAKE A HIKE
Lead by Jim and Jennie Johnson, this year’s 14er will be the first for many of us. The Johnson’s have chosen Huron Peak, a 14,003’ peak in the Sawatch range. Huron is 3 miles west of Missouri Mountain and 6 miles south of La Plata Peak outside Granite, Buena Vista and Leadville. The hike will begin early on Friday morning. From the trailhead, you will start at 10,560’ and hike 2.25 miles to the summit. The trip is 5.5 miles round trip.
Directions from Buena Vista: Drive 14.5 miles north on U.S. 24 and turn left on the Chaffee County 390 road. On the 390 road (dirt), drive 11.3 miles to Winfield. There are a bunch of log buildings here. Turn left on a new road. From Winfield, you must drive a total of 2.1 miles to get to the trailhead. After 0.4 mile, the road gets rugged and requires 4WD. After 0.7 mile, there is a junction. Do not bear left. Stay right. 1.7 miles up the road, you will see the Banker Mine road to your left. There is also another turn on the right shortly after that. Do not take either of these turns. Stay straight on the main road as it parallels the South Fork of Clear Creek. There is parking near the end of the road. Beyond the parking is a gate and the trail starts to the left. Source: www.14ers.com.
